Synopsis/Details

Maximilian Hornung & Franz Schubert Filharmonia

The Sant Pau Festival presents the renowned cellist Maximilian Hornung at the Palau de la Música Catalana, together with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia and under the direction of Tomàs Grau, in an evening of great musical intensity. The concert opens with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1, a work of elegant lyricism and brilliant virtuosity that allows the cello to fully display its expressive range. This is followed by Alexey Shor’s Cello Concerto No. 3, a contemporary piece that combines a modern musical language with a rich emotional depth, performed by Hornung. The evening concludes with Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1919), a work brimming with color, energy, and narrative power that transports the listener into a fascinating sound world. A must-see concert bringing together outstanding soloists, a compelling repertoire, and the interpretative excellence of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia in one of the world’s most iconic concert halls.
